Custom Jewelry Design…Tell your story

A custom project usually starts with a seed of an idea or concept that is brought to us by a client. Together, we then build upon that idea through discussion and sketches. Bespoke custom is unquestionably a meeting of the minds between the client and myself. It is, by design, an extremely intimate interaction that in the end results in a one-of-a-kind, completely personalized design.

Custom designed pieces can serve to commemorate one of life’s milestones, celebrate family or memorialize a loved one. In this case we were asked to design a custom scapular necklace for a client who was seeking to memorialize and honor her family in the wake of a recent loss.

The process started with a discussion and some rough concept sketches. We then identified a fine artist with whom we worked closely to produce original artwork that would incorporate the various elements of symbolism and meaning.

To capture the artwork’s detail at the scale of jewelry, we had it digitized and then resized it in a much smaller version. The artwork was laser etched onto two blocks of 18 karat yellow gold and then set with various stones symbolizing each member of the client’s family.

The result was an elaborately detailed pictorial representation of the elements, symbols and people most treasure by the client. Her “story” translated into a beautiful piece of custom jewelry.
